Historic Libbey Ranch
Steeped in history, tradition and celebrity, Libbey Ranch, one of the earliest works by architect-to-the-stars Wallace Neff, (best known for Pickfair, the 42-room mansion of Mary Pickford and Douglas Fairbanks), was originally built in 1923 as stables for Edward Libbey, the glassware magnate, who is considered the “founding father” of the town of Ojai, a bucolic village in the foothills a short drive north of Los Angeles.
Formerly owned by actor/director Harold Ramis (Ghostbusters) and celebrity designer Kathryn M. Ireland, and now owned by Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, the seven-acre ranch has been featured in House Beautiful and more recently in Elle Décor.
This historic, character-laden property features century-old hardware, fireplaces, arches, turrets, original stonework, plank floors and Spanish tiles. The main house has a soaring beamed-ceiling living room (with a massive stone fireplace), a large and bright country kitchen opening to a large dining room, a library loft with fireplace and 4 bedrooms and 3-1/2 bathrooms. The property also includes a swimming pool, barn, horse stables, 3 guest cottages, carriage house, organic garden, acres of pasture, and picturesque landscape designed by landscape starchitect, Jay Griffith.
Libbey Ranch is perfect for those seeking a quieter, gentler time away from the hustle-bustle urbanity, whether on a part or full-time basis.
